Eggless Chocolate Cake

3 ½ cups sifted flour

2 tablespoons cocoa

1 ½ teaspoons salt

1 ½ teaspoons baking soda

2 cups sugar

2/3 cup shortening

2 teaspoons vanilla

2 cups milk

Chocolate Butter Frosting (recipe follows)
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Grease and flour three, 8-inch round layer cake pans.

Measure the flour, cocoa, salt and baking soda into a mixing bowl, stir well. In a separate bowl, blend the sugar, shortening and vanilla. To this mixture, alternately add the flour mixture and the milk. Mix thoroughly. Pour into the prepared pans and bake about 20 minutes or until done. Frost with the Chocolate Butter Frosting when completely cooled.



Chocolate Butter Frosting

6 tablespoons butter, at room temperature

Dash of salt

1 pound confectioners’ sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla

5 tablespoons milk
Put all ingredients into a bowl and beat well until smooth and creamy. Spread on the cooled cake.
