2-1 ounce squares unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour one 9” square pan or two 8” layer pans. Measure sifted flour, salt, baking soda and sugar into sifter. Stir shortening just to soften. Stir in flour mixture. Add water and mix until all flour is dampened. Then, beat 2 minutes at medium speed with electric mixer. Add melted chocolate, eggs and vanilla and beat 1 minute longer. Pour batter into the prepared pan(s) and bake for 40 to 45 minutes for the square cake or 25 to 30 minutes for the layers. Cool in pans for 10 minutes and then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely. If desired, frost with Mocha Frosting when totally cooled.
